“Beginning of my mental breakdown, right before mile 19.5 I was so excited that the photographers captured that moment. Really wanted to kick that gravel at them.” - Stephanie, Walt Disney World Marathon - part of the Goofy Challenge, January 13, 2013

“This is my favorite race picture of all time. I was jokingly making this face in reference to the fact that I still had 2 run laps to go in the race.” - Renee, Ironman 70.3 Austin, October 28, 2012

“I apparently was shocked that there was a photographer at the finish line. Or it could have been the 4 minutes I shaved off my time from the year prior.” - @BebeGetsWordy, Devotion to Children Mother’s Day 4 - Miler, May 12, 2013

“This was at the SheROX triathlon in Detroit, July 2012. They’re both a picture of me waving to my friends. The first was taken by my husband and I look great even if it is a little blurry. The race photographer was shooting from a different angle and somehow managed to capture me running sideways, arms flailing, look of death on my face. I have no idea how two pictures taken about a half a second apart can be so different.” - Kristin, @KristinDetroit
“I look like I am about to die halfway through this 20K. Although I had a PB in this race and had a excellent run, this photo captured the complete opposite. I think it is the look on my face, all the skin in my face on a downward motion, death march emotion, etc. Whatever it is, i think it qualifies. Note: my fiancee said this doesn’t EVEN look like me in this pic. I would agree.” -

“This entire range of emotion happened over approx. 10-15 seconds at Mile 25 of the race, and the photographer captured all of it. I had hit the wall BIG TIME, and when I saw him, I couldn’t muster a socially acceptable face. Then, I decided, “Well, maybe I’ll at least give him ‘Determined,’” and then I was like, “GOD*******, Hillary. If you get NOTHING else from this race, you will GET A SMILEY RACE PHOTO.” I guess I also got a 6min PR, but I’m almost more proud of these photos.” - Hillary, Wisconsin Marathon, May 4, 2013, 3:44:00
